With over four generations of family farmers in the community, its only natural that the Rutzke family’s way of life would include a passion for hunting, fishing, and airboating in the historic Florida Everglades. Named 2008’s Farm Family of the Year, by the Dade County, Fla., Farm Bureau, the Rutzkes have long standing South Florida roots spanning over a century.
In 1907, Herman Rutzke and his son Fritz moved from Utah to Miami where they began growing tomatoes and oranges. Soon, Fritz and his wife Emma built the family home in the Redlands, and by the mid 1960’s the Rutzke family was farming more than 2,000 acres in the Homestead area of South Florida. Thanks to the Rutzkes innovative farming techniques, they soon became one of the largest vegetable producers in the South Florida area. For the Rutzkes, the outdoors became a way of life.
With an expansion into the Everglades Swamp Tour business, the Rutzke family looks to their deep-rooted background in South Florida to provide an unforgettable experience to visitors. An undeniable love for everything outdoors is sure to shine through at Everglades Swamp Tours. With over 60 years experience air boating in the Florida Everglades, our knowledgeable guides are sure to take you on the ride of a lifetime while educating visitors on the history, ecology and wildlife that call the River of Grass home. From these exciting, educational airboat rides, to bird watching quietly while kayaking, there are no better guides than this family of Florida natives.
