In June of 1965 an abandoned fish cannery on the South Portland shore of the Fore River was converted into a small marina. By the winter of 1974 the marina had only experienced limited growth, provided few services and had less than 20 usable boat slips. In April of 1974 the marina was sold to Robert C. Soucy, Sr. and under his management expanded to a full service marina. Sales of boats and motors were added. Slips increased to 30 and 30 moorings were added.
In 1979 Port Harbor Marine was the successful bidder to develop a new marina with the City of South Portland. In 1980 Port Harbor Marine sold its old location and relocated to its present location on Spring Point Drive. Spring Point Marina consists of over 18,000 square feet of buildings on 6 acres of land and 250 boat slips on 6 acres of water, making us one of the largest marine dealer/marina facilities in the Northeast. Since then Port Harbor Marine has become the leader and trendsetter for the marine industry in the Northeast.
In 1989, Breakwater Marina, a 121 slip dockominium marina was built adjacent to Spring Point Marina. In 1993 Port Harbor Marine purchased 104 of the 121 slips and was awarded management of the marina. Breakwater’s premier slips continue to be a valued addition to our company and sought after by our customers.
In 1993 Port Harbor Marine opened its first satellite location in Brewer, Maine. This full service facility offers boats, motors, trailers, parts and accessories, sales and service. Port Harbor Marine is now the leading provider of marine recreational products in the Bangor and Brewer region.
In 1995 Port Harbor Marine opened the “Outlet Store”, a satellite location in South Portland, to market and sell aluminum products, used boats, and discontinued products. In late 1997 this “Outlet” was relocated to Saco, ME. In the fall of 2006 it was decided to close the “Outlet” until a more suitable location was found that would fit Port Harbor’s needs.
In late 1996 Port Harbor Marine was fortunate enough to acquire highly respected and successful Jordan Bay Marina. Located on several acres on Sebago Lake in Raymond, Maine, this full service facility offers slip space for 50 boats, dry stack service for 150 boats, sales and service of boats, motors, trailers, parts and accessories and boat rentals . The addition of Jordan Bay Marina to the Port Harbor Marine family improved our ability to service our customers in the Lakes Region.
In 1996 Port Harbor Marine was the successful bidder to develop and construct a new marina in the town of Bucksport, ME. In 1997 the first phase of construction was completed and the new “Bucksport Marina” opened for business. Phase two, completed in 1998, provided for 36 seasonal slips, deep water transient slips with up to 100’ fuel and accessories sales. In 2004 the marina was expanded to 46 slips. The beautiful setting and panoramic view made this an excellent location for another Port Harbor Marine facility. This marina was sold to the Town of Bucksport in the spring of 2014 to focus our efforts on our Holden location.
In December of 2000, Port Harbor Marine purchased 120 Breakwater Annex in South Portland. The property is located within a ¼ mile of our Spring Point Marina and Breakwater Marina slips and allowed us to expand our sales and service operations. 9,000sf was being used as our new Delivery Center, improving our customers’ total sales experience. The facility also accommodated our new dock construction projects and provided additional storage space for our customers.
